Biography


Yorkshire, in England, has won world acclaim because of the classical writings of the Bronte Sisters, the popular pen of James Herriot and the voices of Kathleen Ferrier and Dame Janet Baker. Elizabeth Laurence was born into this tradition. From her lycée she went to the Colchester School of Art, to study beauty through such subjects as ; painting, sculpture and figure drawing… Art led to further art, in six years study of singing, clarinet and piano in the celebrated Trinity College of Music in London. There she was qualified as a Teacher of Music and she taught music for six years in London.

Then, having been selected by John Alldis for the « Groupe Vocal de France » and having performed extensively throughout Europe with that group, she made her debut as a soloist and has achieved international status as a Mezzo Soprano ; « outstanding », « most distinguished », « inquiring as sunlight », « full-voiced », « poignantly articulate », « compelling », « excellent », « versatile », « noble », « superlative soloist », « boulezienne rompue à ce style de lyrique contemporaine ». A principal soloist for Pierre Boulez, for more than 10 years, she has been acclaimed as a specialist in the contemporary music of the Viennese School.
